Research team


The research team of the COLON study consists of nine people. In addition, students frequently carry out their thesis within the COLON study.

Prof Dr Ellen Kampman is Professor Diet and Disease at the Wageningen University. She is the principal investigator of the COLON study.







Dr Renate Winkels is a nutritionist at the Wageningen University and senior researcher of, among others, the COLON study. She supervises Renate Heine-Bröring and Harm van Baar in their PhD trajectory.






Dr Fränzel van Duijnhoven is an epidemiologist at the Wageningen University and senior researcher of, among others, the COLON study. She supervises Suzanne van Harten-Gerritsen in her PhD trajectory.






Dr Dieuwertje Kok is a medical biologist at the Wageningen University and senior researcher of, among others, the COLON study. Within the COLON study she examines the composition of the intestinal flora. For this purpose she collects stool samples from some of the participants.





Suzanne van Harten-Gerritsen MSc is a PhD candidate at the Wageningen University. She examines the role of vitamin D in the course of colorectal cancer.







Harm van Baar MSc is a PhD candidate at the Wageningen University. He examines the role of body composition in the course of colorectal cancer.







Anne Geijsen MSc is a PhD candidate at the Wageningen University. She examines biomarkers of development, progression and survival of colorectal cancer. Furthermore she investigates the effect of surgery and chemotherapy on the composition of the intestinal flora.





Moniek van Zutphen MSc is junior researcher of the COLON study. Along with Joline and the PhD candidates she handles all practical affairs such as the mailing of questionnaires and maintaining contact with the cooperating hospitals.
